   He was a well-known playwright when his association with cinema began. In 1930, he was hired by MGM and went to California, shooting the French ver­sion of Charles Brabin's Call of the Flesh / The Singer of Sevilla. His American experience inspired him to author a book against Hollywood (1933 L'Epicerie des Rêves, Editions Baudinière, Paris).
